About the InternshipDuties:
The AZ Science Center Internship is intended for students aged 18 years and older who may have an interest in pursuing a career in science education. An intern will:
- Become proficient in explaining and demonstrating science exhibits and activities in all galleries.
- Serve as a teaching assistant in a classroom, lab or workshop for a minimum of one (1) STEM session.
- Support the Arizona Science and Engineering Fair (AzSEF) that engages students from across Arizona in a science fair competition.
- Serve as a mentor and leader to new volunteers and/or interns and be available to train others in numerous activities. May be asked to speak or assist at workshops for new volunteers.
Interns will provide these services to guests who visit Arizona Science Center with a special focus on at-risk youth (students from Title I Schools) that visit the center through the Focused Field Trips Program.
All interns are required to undergo a one-on-one interview and orientation before being accepted into the program.
Arizona Science Center impacts more than half a million guests annually. This includes more than 146,000 school children representing 100 cities and towns throughout Arizona who visit the Center, including more than 45,000 at-risk you who visit at no charge through our Focused Field Trips Programs. In addition, more than 62,000 children and adults expereince Science on Wheels outreach programs from rural areas, tribal nations, and community organizations throughout Arizona.
Arizona Science Center provides many programs to youth through the Center and in the community. Programming is also offered for professional development which includes teachers, schools, and science professionals. There is a gap in science and specifically STEM education that is filled through these programs and services.
Arizona Science Center impacts more than 500,000 students, teachers and families with their educational programs and events. Additionally, over 235,414 students in classrooms accross Arizona are reached through the Center's Learning Division Programs. Approximatly 103,000 students are exposed to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics through a field trip to Arizona Science Center. Of those students attending Arizona Science Center annually, 44,000 low-income Title I students visited the Science Center FREE of charge.
