K-8 Small Group Tutor

Alhambra Elementary School District

About the Internship

Tutor will support a small group of students at various workstations in Math and Language Arts. Every 14 days, tutors will support the classroom teacher with reassessing the students' progress and regroup as needed.

Population Served:

Any student that joins the Valencia family is a newcomer to our system of teaching and learning. We take a different approach to teaching and learning to support any child in need of language acquisition. With over 20 different languages spoken among our students, students who enroll at Valencia will attend this immersion and find success in all areas with the specialized curriculum to support their language development.

Community Need:

Many of the students who enroll at Valencia are refugees. We provide them the support needed as they acclimate to their new community.

Community Impact:

Students are enrolled at Valencia for one year as they prepare to transition from Valencia to their neighborhood school. Interns who support our classrooms as tutors will not only help provide a firm academic foundation for the students, but support social skill development and a multicultural understanding. Valencia supports the families of our students as they begin to understand the educational system.
