Earn credits & make a difference

The mission of our two signature programs (University Service-Learning and America Reads) is to:

  • Immerse ASU students in the community and provide them with real-world experiences that build professional skills and cultivate socially responsible citizens
  • Serve as a resource for community agencies, faculty, K-12 teachers, and families
  • Partner local organizations and schools with ASU students and staff to serve our community

University Service-Learning

ASU students enrolled in 3-credit USL courses complete coursework relevant to the 70-100 required service hours performed at an approved Community Partner site. USL also offers professional development service-learning workshops for K-12 teachers. Other service-learning tools, resources, and links are provided for ASU faculty and community members.

America reads

Provides educational resources for families to engage their K-8 children at home. For our tutoring programs, ASU students are matched with K-8th grade children living in low income areas and provide mentoring and academic tutoring tailored to the child’s needs. Programming is supported by partnerships with local schools and community centers. Tutors awarded Federal Work-Study are eligible for positions starting at $13.00/hour, with opportunities for promotion.

Education is at the heart of our future. Our future lies in our ability to dream. What we dream we can create. What we create we can become.
